Sydney Sweeney, ‘Euphoria’ Star, to receive Breakthrough Award at ATX Television Festival

The ATX Television Festival has announced that Sydney Sweeney, star of “Euphoria,” will receive the festival’s second annual Breakthrough Award this year.

The 24-year-old “White Lotus” actress will accept the award in person in June in Austin, Texas, and will be interviewed about her work on the hit HBO series.

“This award is truly for someone who is experiencing a career breakthrough. Making waves and garnering attention in ways they haven’t before,” ATX TV fest co-founder Caitlin McFarland told Page Six exclusively in a statement Friday. “We can’t think of anyone who has dominated our conversations more than Sydney Sweeney over the last year.”

“Topping it off, for us as an event, returning in person after three years and hosting someone who appeared in last year’s Closing Night series (‘White Lotus’) and our most recent in-person Opening Night (‘Euphoria,'” she added.
Angelica Ross, star of “Pose,” previously received the award, stating during her virtual acceptance last year, “I am someone who is just breaking through, I’m just beginning… Despite the fact that I am 40 years old, you are witnessing me break the surface.”

The ATX Television Festival — which runs from June 2 to 5 — will return in person for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Programming that had been delayed for two years — including a reunion of “Scrubs” creator Bill Lawrence and cast members Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes, and Neil Flynn — is now set to air. Reunions of “Parenthood” and “Justified” are also planned for this year.

Season 2 of Peacock’s “Rutherford Falls” and Lifetime’s “Flowers in the Attic: The Origin” are set to premiere. Additionally, the festival announced that it will screen and host a panel discussion for Vanessa Bayer’s upcoming Showtime series “I Love That for You.”
