Game of Thrones is HBO Max’s second most popular show

Since its debut in 2011, Game of Thrones has topped a variety of charts. It was previously the most Googled television show in the world, the most tweeted about show in the world, and the most pirated show in the world, among other accolades. Nonetheless, it fell short of being the most-watched show on HBO Max last month. What defeated it to claim the throne? This is South Park.

According to The Wrap, a new report from Parrot Analytics indicates that Game of Thrones was 47.20 times more popular on the streaming service in March 2022 than the average show. South Park, on the other hand, narrowly took the top spot, with 48.16 times the demand. HBO’s $500 million acquisition of the animated comedy’s streaming rights in 2019 clearly paid off.

Unsurprisingly, the service’s most popular show is Euphoria, which received an insane amount of press this year. The complete list is included below:

Emilia Clarke on Game of Thrones finale's shock twist: 'I stand by Daenerys' | EW.com

  1. South Park (48.16x)
  2. Game of Thrones (47.20x)
  3. Euphoria (44.01x)
  4. Sesame Street (41.89x)
  5. Rick and Morty (35.67x)
  6. Steven Universe (32.21x)
  7. Jujutsu Kaisen (31.16x)
  8. The Big Bang Theory (28.93x)
  9. Titans (28.19x)
  10. Our Flag Means Death (27.09x)

The rankings are based on a variety of metrics, such as consumer research data, the number of streams and downloads, social media engagement, and other factors.

Naturally, Game of Thrones will always be near the top of the list, not only because it was so popular and influential — just look at how frequently people talk about “the next Game of Thrones” — but also because interest has been reignited due to the upcoming spinoff House of the Dragon, which will be released later this year.

And House of the Dragon is just one of a slew of spinoff shows in the works. The Tales of Dunk and Egg, Ten Thousand Ships… and probably more projects that we aren’t aware of.

House of the Dragon premieres on HBO Max on August 21. I have no doubt it will rocket to the top of HBO’s in-demand list and remain there for quite some time!
