Canadian singer-songwriter The Weeknd has announced that he will not allow his songs to be nominated to a Grammy in the future after the 2021 Grammy jury ignored his music. “Due to the secret committees, I will no longer allow my music label to submit for the Grammy Award,” he said in a statement to the New York Times.
The 31-year-old singer had earlier sought an explanation from the Recording Academy after tweeting that the nomination for the 63rd Grammy Awards was announced. It did not have a single nomination for his album After Hours, while the song from the same album ‘Blinding Lights’ held the record for being on the top of the US Billboard charts for an entire year.
He wrote on Twitter, “The Grammy Award Academy has become corrupt.”
The Weeknd is one of the artists who have accused the Grammys of bias, corruption, and even racism. Recently, British singer-songwriter Jane Malik also criticized the Grammy Awards on Twitter, calling its body corrupt and biased.
