Who is Luke Perry

Coy Luther Perry III, widely known as Luke Perry was born on October 11, 1956, in Fredericktown, Ohio, USA. He was an American Actor and is well known for his role as Dylan McKay on TV series Beverly Hills, 90210 from 1990 to 1995 and again later from 1998 to 2000. He enjoyed continued success since then and also starred in a popular CW drama Riverdale.

Luke’s parents Coy Luther Perry Jr. and Ann were divorced when he was only 6 years old. His mother Ann gain custody over her children. She later married a construction worker named Steve Benett. Luke was raised by his mother and his stepfather, He never goes into a close relationship with his biological father who suffered a heart attack and died in 1980.

Luke Perry was raised in Fredericktown and attended Fredericktown High School. He served in the role of a school mascot, the Freddie Bird in his high school.

The name of Luke Perry’s wife is actress Rachel Sharp. In 1993 Perry married actress Rachel Sharp with whom he had two children — a son, Jack, and a daughter, Sophie. They got divorced in 2003 and got shared custody of their children.

Luke Perry Career

At the age of 18, Luke Perry moved to Los Angelos with a dream of becoming a professional actor. He struggled for most many years as he auditioned for various roles and not being hired. He supported himself by working various jobs and gigs. During this time he also worked as an extra for music videos. 

Luke Perry’s first successful audition was for a soap opera Loving(1983) for which he played a recurring character, Ned Bates.

He landed another role in another soap opera Another World. 


Luke Perry Beverly Hills

Luke Perry finally caught his break when he landed the most significant role of his career in the Teen Drama Beverly Hills, 90210. He depicted a character named Dylan Mckay and played a total of 199 episodes. 

His new success gained him lots of fame and fanbase. He was quite popular among teenage girls. His popularity guaranteed him of future works and roles.  

His first starring role was on a firm called Terminal Bliss where he played as a rich kid John Hunter. Unfortunately, the film was a box office flop. 

He is also well known for his role in the horror-comedy film Buffy The Vampire Slayer where he portrayed the character Oliver Pike. He enjoyed quite a success with this role as well. 

Perry also did voice acting. His first role was for the episode on Simpsons  The Simpsons: Krusty Gets Canceled. He played a parody version of himself. Perry had many more voice acting roles in other series and films such as Biker Mice from MarsMortal Kombat: Defenders of the RealmThe Incredible Hulk,  Pepper Ann.

After the end of Beverly Hils, 90210, his first major role was for the crime-drama series Oz(19970 where he played as Jerimiah Cloutier. 

Luke Perry’s next starring role was for as post-apocalyptic series Jeremiah(2002). The series lasted only 2 seasons and was canceled due to disagreements between the production companies.

Luke went back to playing mostly guest star roles. However, in 2006 he was cast as one of the main characters in a drama series called Windfall(2006). It was short-lived and only 13 episodes were produced. After this, he again returns to playing guest stars in lots of movies and series. 

In 2017 Luke Perry was back in action when he played as Frederick “Fred” Andrews on a popular series Riverdale. It was an adaptation of a comic book series Riverdale.

In 2015, a colonoscopy test showed cancerous growth in Luke Perry’s body that can develop into colorectal cancer. Perry received medical treatment and became a spokesperson for campaigns for early testing for cancer.

Luke Perry Death Cause

On February 27, 2019, Perry suffered a massive stroke when he was at his home in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles. He was hospitalized and was being treated in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank.  He suffered a second stroke only a few days later and died on March 4, 2019. He was only 52 years old when he passed away. His body was buried near one of his homes in Vanleer.

Perry left his son Jack Perry and his daughter Sophie Perry as the only heirs to his estate. His will excluded Perry’s mother, his stepfather, his siblings, his ex-wife, and his last fiancee from having inheritance claims.
