Hunter Schafer, star of the HBO series Euphoria, live-streamed a transphobic encounter in a Düsseldorf nightclub over the weekend. Schafer, 23 years old, attempted to enter the German nightclub Silq with her assistant, who was allegedly denied access because she is transgender.
Schafer live-streamed the incident with the bouncer via social media. She stated, “[You] said my transgender friend could not enter. “You are live in front of seven million people, by the way.
“Do not visit Silq. It’s not safe for transgender folks.”
Schafer concluded the live webcast by announcing, “Fuck Silq — I quit!” I’m not sure, “Internet, do anything you want. Take them out.” In an Instagram post, Silq answered that the bouncer had been sacked.
Silq posted, “Electronic music is not hate, but rather love. Whoever does not respect the fundamentals of electronic music has no place in our vibrant universe.
“At this time, we apologize to Hunter Schafer and your organization for the misunderstanding that occurred at our door during the night from Saturday to Sunday. This type of behavior has no place in our world and must never occur. We explicitly disassociate ourselves from any forms of discrimination.
“Today, he was expelled following a conversation with the corresponding security employee. We, the Silq, are and will continue to be an LGBT-welcoming club, and we look forward to many more memorable nights with you.”
