GM Andrey Esipenko has achieved something no teenager was able to do before. He has managed to beat World Champion Magnus Carlson in his first-ever classical game and has become the first teenager to beat World Champion Magnus. Magnus has lost to teenagers to rapid and blitz but has never been defeated by any teenagers since he became World Champion. Before he was World Champion, he has lost to Anish Giri when Giri was just 18 years old. But this time Andey Esipenko changed the history. This 18 years young Russian Grandmaster dominated the whole game from start to finish. Magnus also tried really hard to defend this game but had to resign later on. The game is the part of ongoing Tata Steel Chess Tournament.
Magnus was really sad after losing this game as you can see in his tweet.
Had a very unpleasant experience at the playing hall today, felt like a swab was being shoved into my nostril and all the way inside my brain, causing a lot of pain. Covid test after the game was not that bad though #TataSteelChess
