The 100 Prequel: Is it canceled?

The CW has now officially canceled The 100’s long-gestating spinoff that refused to end for two years.

The prequel, created by The 100 creator/executive producer/showrunner Jason Rothenberg, began as a backdoor pilot during the seventh and final season of The CW’s drama The 100 and was given the green light in October 2019.

The project did not enter series production in May 2020, but it was kept alive. According to Deadline, the scenario discussed intermittently for The 100 prequel was a co-production between the CW and HBO Max. This remained the project’s course of action until its conclusion.

In his most recent update in May of this year, Mark Pedowitz, president of the CW, provided fans with optimism.

During The CW’s upfront press call, he stated, “There are still ongoing discussions — it is not complete in any way, shape, or form.” “Discussions are still in progress.”

Set 97 years before the events of the original series, the prequel begins with the end of the world — a nuclear apocalypse that wipes out the majority of Earth’s human population — and follows a band of survivors as they learn to cope in a dangerous world while fighting to build a new and better society from the ashes of what came before.

Iola Evans, Adain Bradley, and Leo Howard appeared in the backdoor pilot; however, their options expired over a year and a half ago.

Rothenberg executive produces alongside The 100 EP Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo of Alloy for Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. TV, and CBS Television Studios. Uncertain whether WBTV would shop the project to other networks.

The 100’s seven-season run concluded in September 2020.
