Beandri Booysen, a 19-year-old TikTok star from South Africa, has passed away due to complications related to Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome, commonly known as Progeria. The rare genetic disorder, which causes rapid aging in children, led to her heart unexpectedly stopping on December 18.
Booysen, who was the last known Progeria survivor in South Africa, had recently undergone heart surgery in October. Despite surpassing the average life expectancy of 15 years for individuals with Progeria, her terminal condition ultimately claimed her life.
Booysen’s mother, Bea Booysen, announced the heartbreaking news to her daughter’s 278,000 TikTok followers with a heartfelt video captioned: *#angel #loved WE ALREADY MISS YOU SO MUCH😭 #fyp* In a Facebook post, Bea shared a longer tribute to Beandri, highlighting her impact: “Beandri was not only known for her vibrant personality and infectious laugh but also as the last surviving individual in South Africa living with Progeria. Despite the challenges she faced, Beandri radiated hope and joy.
She became a symbol of awareness for Progeria and other special needs, using her unique spirit to inspire thousands of people worldwide.” Fans and followers flooded social media with condolences, describing Beandri as “strong,” “inspirational,” and “full of humor.” Many reflected on how her courage and positivity brought hope and awareness to Progeria and similar conditions.
The Booysen family, while appreciative of the love and support, has requested privacy during this difficult time.
